What Boomerang Is

Boomerang is a personal daily gazette app designed for adults 65 and older. It delivers games, stories, local events, wellness check-ins, and daily content in a warm, newspaper-style format.

What We Collect

We collect only what is needed to personalize your daily edition:

• Account information — Name, email address, and language preference when you create an account.
• Interests & preferences — Hobbies, topics, and location name you provide during setup so we can show relevant content.
• Location — Approximate location (city-level) to show local weather, events, and nature sightings. We use your device's location services only when you grant permission. You can enter a location manually instead.
• Wellness data — Mood check-ins, medication reminders, and exercise logs you choose to enter. This data is private to your account.
• Family contacts — Names and phone numbers of people you add to your Family Circle, stored so you can call them from the app.
• Usage data — Anonymous crash reports and basic analytics (screen views, feature usage) to improve the app. No personal content is included.

What We Do NOT Collect

• We do not sell your data to anyone.
• We do not show advertisements.
• We do not track your browsing outside the app.
• We do not share your wellness or health data with insurers, employers, or any third party.
• We do not record your phone calls or messages.

How We Use Your Data

• Personalization — Your interests and location shape which cards appear in your daily edition.
• AI curation — We use AI (Claude by Anthropic) to arrange and personalize your daily content. The AI sees your interests and content options but not your wellness data or family contacts.
• Reminders — Medication and appointment reminders are stored locally and on your account so they work across sessions.
• Family access — If you use the family-assisted account type, your designated caretaker can view (but not modify) your settings, interests, and wellness trends to help you stay well.

Where Data Is Stored

Your data is stored in Firebase (Google Cloud), hosted in the United States. Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. Only you, your authorized caretakers, and our servers can access your data.

Third-Party Services

Boomerang uses the following services to provide content:

• Firebase (Authentication, Firestore, Crashlytics) — by Google
• OpenStreetMap / Overpass API — for local places and venues
• Open-Meteo — for weather data
• eBird (Cornell Lab) — for bird sightings
• NASA — for Astronomy Picture of the Day
• Library of Congress — for historical content
• PoetryDB — for daily poems
• Metropolitan Museum of Art — for artwork
• LibriVox — for public domain audiobooks
• Internet Archive — for classic films
• Claude AI (Anthropic) — for content curation

These services receive only the data necessary to fulfill their function (e.g., your approximate location for weather). They do not receive your name, wellness data, or family contacts.

Your Rights

• Access — You can view all your data within the app (Profile, Settings, Keeping Healthy).
• Correction — You can update your information at any time through the app.
• Deletion — You can request deletion of your account and all associated data by emailing us. We will delete your data within 30 days.
• Portability — You can request a copy of your data in a standard format.

Children's Privacy

Boomerang is designed for adults aged 65 and older. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If we learn we have collected data from a child, we will delete it promptly.

Changes to This Policy

If we make material changes, we will notify you through the app and update the date above. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
